What carpet cleaning actually costs

The prices we work from

A single room up to about 12 m² starts at £25. Two rooms, or a through-lounge counted as one space, start at £45. Stairs and a landing are £30, and a whole three-bedroom house is £110, which is the job we are asked for most.

A rug cleaned on site is £20. Stain protector is £8 a room and a heavy pet-odour treatment is £15 a room, both optional and both quoted before we start rather than added afterwards.

What moves the price

• Size, measured properly. A 12 m² box room and a 30 m² lounge are not the same job, and pricing them the same means one of you is losing.
• How long it has been. A carpet cleaned every year takes one pass; one that has never been cleaned takes three and a pre-spray.
• Pets. Odour sits in the underlay, not the pile, and that is a different treatment rather than a longer clean.
• Furniture. We move sofas and chairs; we do not move pianos, full wardrobes or beds with storage drawers.
• Access. A first-floor flat with no parking adds time, and we would rather say so than swallow it and rush the job.

Why we will not quote a final price blind

We will give you a guide price on the phone in under a minute, and it is usually right. What we will not do is commit to a final figure for a carpet nobody has seen, because the two ways to make that safe are to pad every quote or to add to the bill on the day, and both are worse than asking for a photo.
